Why We Love the Malibu

Throughout the years, since it’s introduction in 1964, the Chevy Malibu has served as the perfect vehicle for those looking to drive something smaller than an Impala. Originally a trim level for the Chevy Chevelle, the Malibu became it’s own vehicle in 1976.

Fitting in perfectly with the rest of the Chevy lineup here in the US, the Malibu, named after the city in California, didn’t begin being marketing internationally until it’s eighth generation. Road trips out of Nashville can be a great way to travel, especially on a scenic drive. But we’ve all been there when we get out of the car, after many hours, when it feels like you somehow aged 30 years in the car. Your joints hurt, your muscles are sore, and you can’t figure out what on earth happened to your back. Here are the 5 best stretches to avoid this feeling: 

To Avoid Body Aches:

1. Adjust!

Adjust your seat position frequently. If you’re the driver especially, keeping your seat in the same position will put excessive strain on your back. Try moving your seat back or forward an inch every hour. This will give your back the chance to use its muscles in a different way, and avoid getting sore.

2. Tighten!

Once an hour, tighten your abdominal muscles for 2 seconds and release. Repeat this 10 times. This helps maintain adequate circulation which will keep you from tightening up.

3. Flex!

Straighten your legs, squeeze your quads, and flex your feet. This will keep your knees loose, and the muscles in your legs warmed up. In addition, this helps keep circulation to your lower leg and you will be able to avoid having your feet fall asleep. Try to complete this stretch every 45 minutes.

4. Press!

Every hour, press your hands to the roof of the car and push. This will keep your back and arm muscles from tightening up. It’s also good for your neck, as long as you keep your shoulders down while pushing up.

5. Rest!

Arguably the best stretch for car rides is to simply stop the car at a rest stop every 2-3 hours and get out and take a short walk. Stretch whatever aches, take a few minutes to yourself, and get back in. This works out well if paired with bathroom, food, or gas stops.
