Getting Through the Tennessee Tornado Season
By Admin | Posted in Just For Fun, Tips and Tricks on Monday, April 27th, 2015 at 7:45 AMList of Ways to Safely Survive Tornado Season in Dickson TN
We all know that twisters can come at any time of the year, but between March and May in Tennessee, there is an especially big risk of crossing paths with one of these bad boys. In the event of a tornado, it’s important to have a plan and be prepared. Here is our list of ways to safely survive tornado season in Dickson TN.
Sometimes the worst storms can strike at the worst time. Whether you are on the road, or at home, there are certain things you can do to get through as safely as possible.
-
Tornados + Cars = bad news. You know those scenes in movies where the characters are trying to outrun the giant thing behind them? And you are wondering why they don’t just run to the side and out of the way? Yeah, do not try to outrun a tornado with your vehicle. If you can, drive in the opposite direction the storm is travelling. If you see a tornado developing where you are driving, it is best to evacuate the vehicle and head for the nearest shelter or building. None of those available? find a low-lying area or a ditch and cover your head!
-
Emergency Kits are Great: Remember last week when we talked about having an emergency kit in the car? Perfect. Well, everyone should have one in their home in case of a tornado too! Make sure you have a flashlight, battery-powered radio, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, photo IDs and some cash, and a spare set of car keys.
-
Find Twister Buddies: Find someone you know in your area and exchange phone numbers and contact info. After a big storm rolls through, give eachother a shout to make sure that everyone is alright.
-
Give Out Instructions: Before a storm ever happens, it’s important that each person knows what they need to do. Who is grabbing the dog? Who is turning off the gas, electricity, and water? Who gets the kids together? These things are important to know and can save lives.
Have any other important tips you’d like to add? We want everyone to make it through safely! Leave your thoughts in the comments, and have a safe tornado season y’all!
