At Alexander Chevrolet Buick GMC, we like to take time out of every month to appreciate some of the local teachers who educate our children each and every day. In honor of these wonderful people, we present the Teacher of the Month Award. Here are the biographies of the teachers you have chosen to receive the award in December:
Chris ClapperDickson County
I have been an educator for 19 years and currently teach wellness in Dickson County, where I have taught for 15 years. I started in McEwen for my first four years. I've coached football for twenty years and basketball for 19 years.
Cindy DraperVanleer Elementary
I began my college years as a voice major but switched majors after assisting with Special Olympics, where I discovered my true calling. In 1982, I graduated from Austin Peay State University with my degree in Special Education. I was hired to teach Special Ed at Vanleer Elementary School in 1982, and thirty two years later, I am still teaching Special Education at Vanleer Elementary! It is the ONLY job I have ever had. I believe I have been called by God to teach children with disabilities, because I have an invested interest in helping children with special needs realize their academic and social potential. I absolutely LOVE my job and consider it a privilege!
Matt HerbertHumphreys County
I majored in Secondary Education at Holy Family College in Philadelphia and received my bachelor's degree in 1996. My master's degree was earned at Austin Peay State University with an emphasis in educational technology. Having an interest in American history and politics I minored in those disciplines. I thoroughly enjoy introducing the students to the intricacies of the U.S. political system, and engaging them in conversations designed to consider the critical issues of our nation. Sharing the story of our nation is also a passion of mine. Working with teenagers allows me to explore both topics in great detail. Technology also allows me to introduce students to ideas and events they may not have experienced before. I currently serve as the Forensics coach and co-sponsor the Student Government organization. In these situations, I love working with teens to help them expand their skill set in forensics and molding future leaders with student council.
